Leap Seconds File

Information about Leap Seconds

The speed of our planet’s rotation around its axis fluctuates daily and it slows down very slightly over time. Therefore we add leap seconds from time to time to make sure that our clocks reflect the earth’s rotation as accurately as possible. Adding a leap second means that we are creating a minute consisting of 61 seconds. By adding this additional second we stop our clocks for that second to give earth the opportunity to catch up.

Leap Seconds File

The Leap Second File contains a table of dates indicating when the difference between TAI and UTC time scales change due to a leap second.

It is required for hopf products that are IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) enabled and have not been in operation during a leap seconds event.
